Weddings After Covid-19

This has been a difficult time for the whole world and we should keep our disappointments and disruptions in perspective. It may be quite a while before weddings and the choices involved in planning one are “back to normal.”  I know how devastating it has been for the couples and vendors affected during the Spring of 2020 in the United States. During the most popular time of year for weddings, thousands of ceremonies and receptions were postponed or cancelled due to social distancing and mandated guidelines.

To try and guess how future wedding planning and execution will work is anyone’s guess but I would like every couple to have a wonderful, emotionally satisfying experience even if it doesn’t turn out to be exactly what they dreamed of all their lives.

As social distancing and health concerns continue to play a role in weddings, I’m hoping couples will focus on their love story, their commitment and, perhaps, a more intimate gathering of loved ones.

The benefits to “intimate weddings” or “styled elopements” are many – including less cost and less stress – enabling you to make the most of your resources. Perhaps, less people – more elegant food; less decor expense – more honeymoon; shorter photography hours – more meaningful and memorable photos…

Maybe instead of a band or DJ playing for hours you have lovely, live musicians for the ceremony and a sunset cocktail hour. Maybe instead of a videographer spending the entire day with you they film the ceremony to send to friends and family not present, or better yet, live stream to anyone who wants to “attend.”

Perhaps a beautiful, elegant brunch or luncheon with a chance for guests to just talk, play a game or even do some Karaoke. You could hire an entertainer or comedian – there are a million ways for people to enjoy being with you on your special day.

There are many ways to have a “dream wedding” if you use you open your minds and your hearts to different ideas and you find vendors who have imagination and are flexible, innovative and excited to move forward in a changing world.
